TM Hughes & Son are Gas Safe Registered 24-hour plumbers and heating engineers offering 24-hour emergency plumbing services.
We can be with you ASAP in the event of an emergency, whether it’s a blocked drain or a serious Boiler issue. We provide fast response times for all heating, plumbing and drainage problems.
Your local emergency plumbers always on hand for the home or business.
The emergency situation’s assessed and resolved. When the required parts are not immediately available, your property’s made safe. We’ll make sure no further damage or problems occur until the job’s completed (which is as soon as possible)
What To Do In A Plumbing Emergency
Call us immediately, and we can give you advice over the phone (to minimise potential damage) before we get to you.
When you have a leak or a burst pipe, the first thing to do is locate your mains stopcock and shut off your water supply. Keep turning the stopcock clockwise until it won’t turn any further. This will stop any further water from getting into your plumbing system, but water already in the system can still leak out. If you have a radiator leak or burst central heating pipe, the water could keep flowing until the whole system is empty.
To minimise damage put a bucket or towels around the area of the leak and change as necessary.
If you have a standard boiler system and have a cold water storage cistern (usually in the loft), water could keep leaking until the storage tank is empty. If you feel the storage cistern is feeding, in this instance, close the gate valve on the cold water pipe (the gate valve should be close to the tank). If this doesn’t work, open all your hot taps, which will empty the storage cistern.
What To Do In A Gas Emergency
If you smell gas or suspect a gas leak shut off your Gas Supply with the emergency control valve at the meter, only if it’s safe to do so. Do not smoke light matches or cigarette lighters. Switch any electrical appliances on and off. Extinguish any naked flames.
Open all windows and doors and get outside away from the property. Call Us immediately or another qualified Gas Safe Engineer.
Please do not turn the gas supply on until A Gas Safe Registered Engineer has given it the all-clear.
What To Do In A Carbon Monoxide Emergency
If your Carbon Monoxide alarm starts beeping, DO NOT ignore the alarm.
If you or any members of your family experience Confusion, Dizziness, Headache, Nausea or Vomiting, phone the emergency services and tell them you have the symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
Go outside along with anyone else in your home, and don’t re-enter until the Emergency Services have seen to you and your family and given your property the all-clear.
If your carbon monoxide alarm is beeping and no one is showing signs of poisoning
Open all windows and doors in your home. Turn off all gas appliances. Shut off the gas supply. Contact Us and leave gas appliances off and property ventilated (leave windows and door open) until we have checked your gas supply and appliances.
